Hi Roger:

I think it´s an easier problem. Let´s say you got a 20 x 30 cm photo in your hands, you will probably watch it at 30 - 40 cm. But if the photo is 2 x 3 m, you will see it from 3 - 4 m. That´s the "normal angle" of vision. And from that you get the "normal lens".

"Normal lens" is not the right name for it. It should be "common lens". Because honestly, you may or you may not prefer this angle of vision.

I came across this post via PetaPixel's broadcast of it today. As an Optometrist and an advanced amateur photographer, I found this article to be accurate, entertaining and informative. Nicely done!

I'm an eye doctor and a photography hobbyist. Well done on an informative article that was remarkably accurate regarding visual perception and physiology.

I've been greedily consuming your articles on this blog. It is quite a pleasure to read them. I enjoyed this one too. I was surprised with the 130 million pixel resolution.

I have been reading a lot of your blog posts this evening. Thanks for taking the time to write all these. I really enjoyed this post, its exactly the kind of thing I love to ponder over. Your technical articles are great as well... I've been checking mtf charts for all my lenses, and tossing out my cheap filters. Thanks again,.
