Shall We Play a Game?

Posted by

Getting ready to move a business is just like any other move: you spend a lot of time waiting for workmen to show up: painters, electricians, plumbers, you name it. It seems Roger and Aaron got a little bored over at the new building. There wasn’t much to play with: lots of empty space, some lenses we’d started moving over, and some floor tiles they found. They had to entertain themselves somehow.

The Lensrentals Chess set

So a nice game of chess seemed like a good idea. I know: they were wrong for doing this. Very wrong. But since they did, does anybody want to rent a rather unique chess set? Shipping cost might be a deal breaker, though.

Addendum: well we figured we might as well plug it in to our rental model and price it: You can rent the Lensrentals Chess set for just $9,221.00 per week.

Never mind shipping – the cost of the lenses kinda boggles the mind…

I hope Canon won! :)

That is just awesome. A die-cast full size or even 1:2 size would be awesome to have. If only I have 152k laying around haha!

Definitely a bit pricier than the Civil War Chess Set that used to be advertised way back when… Maybe you could do one of those “we’ll send you a new piece every month and bill your credit card the low, low price of $4599.95 + S&H. We’ll also include a free (some assembly required) vinyl tile chessboard at no extra cost with your last piece!”

Love it. The ultimate “Collect the Whole Set”. The Civil War thing got me thinking, though: maybe this will finally be a use for all the FD lenses on eBay.

I want a high res copy of those photos, would make a great background!

I have made some pretty cool things from our stock room in the past. Eraser Pigs, with push pin feet. Paper clip art etc… Now I can see that I wasn’t even close to the level you guys are at. I take my paper hat off to you!

Fun Stuff.

Collecting enough FD 50mm f/1.8s for pawns would be easy enough…

Initial setup:

White squares on the right: check.

White Queen white square / Black Queen black square: well…maybe the Queens are taller now?

Serge Gree said:

Black ones could be set of Sigma or Tamron lenses. Would be cheaper.

I’m with Ken, the king and queen appear to be misplaced :-D

But completely awesome anyway

You know they’re moving when…..

What you need to do is offer up a weekend tournament and encourage folks to fly in. We game all day Saturday and then spend Sunday out and about – lens selection order based off of how well you played.

Maybe as the summer season winds down – and give us first dibs on items to be put up for sale (if glass from Japan is flowing again).

While it is a very unique chess set – I think the set at the link has a higher price tag — something about using gold and platinum with assorted diamonds, emeralds, rubys and other gemstone might explain the difference.

Excellent!

Reminds me of the time I had a whole load of redundant PC’s at work; we made Gateway2000Henge ;)

You could almost get away w/ an affordable and playable chess set if you used those Canon L coffee mugs… if only they made them in every model.

Hilarious and quite clever! :) I wonder if “but I’m collecting the whole set” would fly here at home. ha ha

I seriously hope someone rents the set and shoots a film of a game played on the set. That would be totally freaking awesome!

I guess the Canon KingsKnight only will perform in combination with special openings. Otherwise it will not work properly (backfocus) or it has to be adjusted by Canon. The Canon QueensKnight only works with Mark IV-Kings, sunny weather provided.
