Roger, just to let you know: the provided link to 60Da took me to a strange and hidden place... (sentries and passwords involved).

On the subject of astrophotography: do you carry tracking mounts by any chance?

Love the article. At the rental house I work at in Atlanta, we've got more than our share of "misfits" too, and I'm not just referring to the employees. Probably the biggest was the Fuji S5. Great camera, sharp images with good color, I took one to my nieces wedding, and she said my pictures looked better than the photographer they hired. Somehow, we just couldn't get the word out. Oh well, you never know until you try.

Half of the things on this list aren't good rental candidates because folks who need one, own one. Tripods, spotting scopes, BLUBBs, and ballheads all fall into this category. Either you never use it, or you always use it (and buy one).

John,
We're sort of storyboarding it now, but it's something we really are considering in the future.

I would totally rent a medium format camera if it wasn't so damn expensive.
also, I know this probably won't ever happen, but most of us who rent film making equipment from you guys would appreciate a pick-up/drop off branch near Los Angeles somewhere. Your prices are way below any film rental house here, and you can seriously destroy the market if you start expanding. I know y'all have the money to do so anyway. just a thought ;)

I have had a lightweight tripod, but rented from you guys when I rented a big lens. Finally went and bought my own heavy duty one, but after spending some weeks doing research on ballheads trying to find one I can afford that can handle a supertelephoto and is arca swiss compatable-- ugh, gave up and am still renting my ball head from you guys!

A: you can roughly say that 20x zoom is about 1000 mm for a full frame camera, since normal view is 50 mm. The advantage of a spotting scope compared to the (home-made) punctured-lens-cap-with-oculair-in-it is that you see things up right :)
However, I'd still rather turn my large lens into a scope, or vice versa ;) So far it seems nobody makes these things unfortunately, so if you want to rent stuff you're stuck with the scope.
Idea for Roger: make a nice link from the large tele-lenses to these scopes, they'll probably be used by the same people ;)

The Westcott Ice Light is the Lensrentals item I lust after the most! If I had a dime to my name, I'd rent it in a heartbeat.

An interesting array of cool things; many of which I didn't know you carried, and a couple I didn't even know existed!

I've never heard of the Sony digibinos, what's the 3D still photo quality like? Also, 20x is a fairly meaningless number (to me); any idea roughly what the focal length is in 35mm equivalent terms? I'd probably rent them now, if only you shipped to England...

I think your main problem with the spotting scopes is no-one quite knows what you need to make it work as a lens; and when they do, they have no idea what the rough equivalent focal length is in 35mm terms. Make it clear on the front page precisely what you need to do to make it useful, and roughly what effective focal length it offers and I'm sure you'll rent them a lot more often. You have most of that useful info available, but it's not on the main page; and it needs to be on the main scope pages!

Didn't know you had IR modded cameras; that's good to know!

I'm right behind you on the 645D Roger - with the price point that a Nikon shooter would spend for the D800 + lens or two that can resolve at that level, I expect MF to become more interesting. Canon hasn't put out a 30mp+ sensor, so we'll see how the 85mmF1.2 holds up. If you have to buy glass to match up to a new body, might as well move up the food chain.
