Hi Roger,

I have just started using my new 24-70 mk and noticed images are slightly soft towards the edge even at f8 @50mm
Is this normal.

Add me to the list of those who would like to know if the new lens has the rotation sensor that works with the 5D3 and 1Dx. I plan to purchase a lens soon to use with my 5D3 and that is an important consideration for me.

Axel, I couldn’t say, but the D800 certainly showed on the Nikon side some lenses were more capable of taking advantages of that sensor than others. I would expect the same thing would happen should Canon come out with a high-res sensor.

Interesting read, and it should make purchasing this lens somewhat more relaxed since the real world difference is negligible…

… but what wasn’t accounted for is that with the upcoming higher mp sensors the difference might be much more pronounced, and I understand the lens’ design and expected lifetime cycle is also made for ~46mp (or crop crop sensors with higher pixel density, if you (dual-)use this lens also on crop for some reason).

Any guesses how much the difference will show up in these cases?

Yes that is what i meant.
– If the lens that is best at 70mm also is the best ( or almost) at the other focal lengths…
It would be interesting to combine the results of 4 ( 24-35-50 and 70) focal lengths and see the variation..
(4x 70 tests!) but would be interesting…

I’m not sure I understand the question. If you’re asking is the best lens at 70 also the best at 24, then the answer is no, it is not.

Roger (I almost said “Dude” cause I love you lol) you do yeoman’s work. I so look forward to your reviews. Keep up the fantastic work. Oh, btw, I sold my MKI for the new version. I like the lighter weight. Offsets the extra weight of my new 1Dx.

I will probably get the Tamron for now until I can afford the new lens. VC will be nice, but I don’t really need it as much as I would like the IQ of the canon.
