What Is Focus Shift?

Posted 2008.11.05

Its not uncommon that a customer shooting with a wide-aperture prime lens for the first time calls to talk about difficulty with autofocus. The lens seems to frontfocus sometimes, or backfocus sometimes. We try to talk about the phenomenon of focus shift on the telephone, but its almost impossible to discuss verbally.

We have benefitted from the expertise of Diglloyd reviews and informational articles. Diglloyd is a paid site, the author, Lloyd Chambers has been kind enough to post a portion of his article on focus shift as a free article HERE for our customers. We highly recommend reading it for those of you who want to get the best possible shots with wider prime lenses.

For that matter, we highly recommend his whole site— and this is not a promotional announcement, I pay for my subscription because, well, its absolutely worthwhile.
