![]() A 2 XLR to mini-headphone (3.5mm) adapter that mounts under a camera. The Beachtek DXA-5P allows two sources to be input, including timecode feeds. Input is through 2 XLR, although it offers an auxiliary mini-headphone input as well. Inputs are switchable between ‘Mic’ level and ‘Line’ level input as well. It mounts either under the camera or on a tripod plate. The DXA-5D operates on one 9v battery (not included). Output is through mini-headphone (3.5mm) jack. This adapter is specifically designed for dSLRs such as the Canon 5DMkII and Nikon D300s. The DXA-5D differs from our other XLR adapter by its automatic gain control (AGC) disable function. This feature sends a high-frequency inaudible tone to the camera’s left audio channel, registering a constant level of input and keeping the input gain steady, but filtered out by the camera—thus preventing the ‘hiss’ generated by the camera’s AGC during quiet moments. The DXA-5D also allows manual control of mic levels. Mike’s Take: Great for getting higher quality audio (and easily setting levels) for dSLRs and camcorders with 3.5mm inputs. This adapter also features a level monitor which is really convenient. Simple to mount, and requiring no power, it works well and lets you use professional quality XLR plug microphones with a camera that wouldn’t otherwise support them. Works Well With:
