Called “the streetsweeper”, this is Canon’s widest range L-quality zoom. Quite sharp at all focal lengths with a good Image Stabilization system. It is used when the photographer needs a one-lens solution— when it’s inconvenient to carry multiple lenses or conditions make changing lenses difficult. It’s a large lens, similar in size to the 100-400mm or 70-200 f/2.8 lenses. It is also a telescoping zoom lens, like the 100-400mm.
Roger’s take: If you want a superzoom (10X) on a full-frame camera this is the choice for you. Its extremely sharp throughout the zoom range although it has a bit of distortion at the long and short ends. Basically this is THE one-lens solution and is very useful when you are in conditions where changing lenses is not something you want to do. Don’t mistake it for a convenient walkaround, though, like the small superzooms for crop-sensor cameras: this is a big beast of a lens (the size of the 70-200 f2.8 or 100-400) that you probably would rather not hang around your neck all day.
For Sale: We have one copy of the 28-300 IS L lens rotating out of stock. It comes with hood, tripod ring, and in original Canon soft zipper case. In good condition, grading at 8/10 (our grading scale is HERE ) — flawless electronics, mechanicals, and image quality, but there are small, faint hairline coating scratches on the front elements that are visible when inspecting with a hot-light but that don’t affect image quality at all. But the minor flaw makes it good bargains at $1829 with a 3 day inspection period during which you can return them for refund if not completely happy, and a 90 day warranty against failure during normal use.
NOTE: We do not ever sell our lenses on eBay. Any eBay listing that appears to be Lensrentals.com is a scam.
Note: We have found that few people are using the tripod ring with this lens and they generally take it off the first day of rental. Because of this, we do NOT ship the tripod ring with the lens unless you request it in the special instructions box when you order.
