Canon 400mm f/5.6L

Canon’s most affordable ‘L’ quality supertelephoto, the 400 f5.6 is lightweight (considering its reach and quality) and known for providing extremely sharp images, even with the aperture wide open. While its weight allows it to be easily handheld, it does not have image stabilization so using a tripod is recommended except in good light conditions.

There are a couple of tiny scratches on the barrel, as a small amount of internal dust that does not affect image quality. Roger’s take: In many ways the perfect telephoto – its small and light, as sharp as any lens Canon makes, autofocuses in a split second. In the summer its phenomenally popular with birders and wildlife photographers. The lack of IS makes it less popular in winter and in poor light when it is more difficult to get fast shutter speeds. It will inevitably be replaced by an IS version someday, at twice the cost. Actually, the way Canon prices have been going lately, it probably will stay the same at twice the cost.
