The new 70-200mm f/4L IS lens provides what a lot of photographers have been asking for: the light weight and incredible sharpness of the 70-200 f/4L with the image stabilization that has until now required the much heavier f/2.8 IS lens. This is the first lens with the new 4th generation IS that provides up to 4 stops of Image Stabilization. Less than half the size and weight of the f/2.8 lens, the f/4 IS may be the perfect vacation telephoto.
Roger’s take: This is the perfect medium telephoto for travelling and vacation. It’s as sharp as any zoom, the 4th generation IS is really amazing, and it’s small and light. The pictures never disappoint with this. All that being said, I usually end up wanting more range and because of that often end up taking the larger 100-400 or the 70-300 IS.
