Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro

Available Tomorrow

The Canon EF 50mm f2.5 Compact-Macro is small, lightweight macro option for Canon users. The f2.5 aperture allows for a large amount of background blur in a variety of shooting conditions. It can reproduce 1:2 macro shots, allowing users to shoot very small objects. This lens features a floating optical system for high-quality images at all focus distances.

This is a less-expensive alternative to the other Canon macro lenses. It gives decent results wide open and sharpens up nicely as you stop down. Keep in mind it is one of Canon’s older design EF lenses, so the autofocus is pretty loud and a bit slow. It doesn’t have full-time manual focus, so you have to flip the switch to fine-tune focus. Otherwise, it’s a decent lens.

One strange thing to note: The distance scale at its closest focusing point says the lens reproduces at 1:2, while the marking on the barrel says 1:1. The lens does only give a 1:2 macro. The barrel is referring to using an add-on Life Size Converter EF accessory (fancy way of saying extension tube). We do not stock this.
