Canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS

Called “the streetsweeper”, this is Canon’s widest range L-series zoom. Quite sharp at all focal lengths with a good Image Stabilization system, it is used when the photographer needs a one-lens solution. Its a large lens, similar in size to the 100-400mm or 70-200 f/2.8 lenses. It is also a telescoping zoom lens, like the 100-400mm.

Roger’s take: If you want a superzoom (10x) on a full-frame camera this is the choice for you. Its extremely sharp throughout the zoom range although it has a bit of distortion at the long and short ends. Basically this is THE one-lens solution and is very useful when you are in conditions where changing lenses is not something you want to do. Don’t mistake it for a convenient walkaround, though, like the small superzooms for crop-sensor cameras. This is a big beast of a lens (the size of the 70-200 f/2.8 or 100-400) that you probably would not want hanging around your neck all day.

Note: We have found that few people are using the tripod ring with this lens and they generally take it off the first day of rental. Because of this, we do NOT ship the tripod ring with the lens unless you request it in the special instructions box when you order.
