This is the newly released Version II of the Sigma 12-24 zoom for full-frame cameras. Say what you want but it’s the only way to get to 12mm on a full-frame, not to mention it’s a zoom. 12mm on a full-frame has a massive 122° field of view. It’s not unusual for photographers to find their shoes in the image if they don’t frame carefully.
There are several claimed improvements over the original version. The new lens contains one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass element and four of the company’s new “F” Low Dispersion FLD glass elements to compensate for color aberration and provide high image quality. It also contains 3 aspherical elements (three glass mold and one hybrid). Sigma also claims it is weather-resistant.

But really, that’s kind of nit-picking on my part. What we have here is a rectilinear lens that goes as wide as 12mm on a full frame camera. If that was an easy thing to do Sigma wouldn’t be the only company trying it. And it’s a fun lens: the difference between 12 and 14mm is a really significant difference.
