The new FlexTT5 is a dedicated Canon E-TTL II radio transceiver. The transmitting unit slides onto the camera’s hot shoe and can trigger slave pocket wizards up to 800 feet away, even out of the line of sight. It sits flat on top of the camera with only a small flip-up antenna when maximum range is needed, and has a ‘pass-through’ hot shoe mount on top, allowing you to use an on-camera shoe mounted flash in addition to off camera flashes if you wish.
It supports multiple slave units, which are triggered by additional FlexTT5 units set as receivers, or triggered by standard PocketWizards (without TTL data passed through in this case). The flash can be controlled by the camera, on camera flash, or flash commander controls for up to 20 TTL units.
Note: the rental price is for a single FlexTT5 unit. You will need a second FlexTT5 or other pocket wizard unit to act as a receiver.
Warning: The FlexTT5 has had a lot of problems with very short transceiver range, sometimes only a few feet away before it loses signal. If you need a more reliable unit we recommend staying with the standard pocket wizards: they don’t do TTL, but they always work.
Additionally, the FlexTT5 works with both the PocketWizard Plus III, as well as the Plus X models. However, the FlexTT5 may need to be synced to these units in order to function. Most of the troubleshooting calls and emails we receive stem from this issue and it’s an easy one to resolve. To sync the FlexTT5 to either another FlexTT5, Plus III, or Plus X unit, simply press and hold the TEST/LEARN button on the receiving unit until it glows a solid amber. While the receiver is doing this, press and hold the TEST button on the transmitting unit for a few seconds. This should sync the two units together.
