The Sea & Sea DX-1G Underwater Digital Camera is actually a kit that includes a Sea & Sea housing that is rated to withstand a depth of 164 feet (50 m), along with the Sea & Sea DX-1G camera. Since this camera has a shutter lag time of only 0.1 seconds, it is well suited for underwater use. The camera features a large 2.5-inch TFT liquid crystal monitor, well visible underwater.
The camera has a zoom lens equivalent to 24-72mm, f/2.5-4.4 on a full frame camera and is capable of taking macro close-ups. The DX-1G has functionality and performance close to an SLR without the bulk, hassle, and weight. It is a 10.3-megapixel camera with a CCD sensor capable of shooting JPEG or RAW as well as taking 640×480 video clips.
Note that the camera records directly to Adobe’s .DNG format, meaning there’s no headache at all loading into Lightroom or Bridge.
The Sea & Sea DX-1G housing allows access to all camera functions underwater.

More importantly, underwater housings have a very real failure rate, and when they fail the camera inside is toast: all gone, bye-bye, no repair possible. Logic tells us that if you can afford to ruin your camera, you can afford to buy an underwater housing. So for those of you who can’t afford to replace our nice SLR and lens when the inevitable housing leak occurs, we’ve decided this is the next best thing. It gives images equivalent to a high-end point and shoot (Canon G10, etc.) in a reasonably priced package that we can actually insure.
