16MP Live MOS sensor
Fast, highly accurate autofocus
Five-axis in-camera image stabilization
4K video capture at 24p/30p
The Panasonic GX85 is an enthusiast-level mirrorless Micro 4/3 camera and younger sibling of the Panasonic GX8. Key features include:
16MP Live MOS Sensor. The GX85’s 16-megapixel Micro 4/3 sensor delivers high-quality images with high sensitivity and quick response times. The omission of an optical low-pass filter means sharper, higher-resolution photos.
Image Stabilization. Like the GX8, the GX85 features in-camera image stabilization. However, this updated 5-axis version in-body stabilization works without the need for a stabilized lens while also working with 4K video, making the GX85 an excellent choice for videographers who want to keep an ultra compact low profile.
DFD Autofocus System. Short for Depth-from-Defocus, it’s a fancy way of saying the GX85 uses contrast-detection to acquire focus in conditions down to -4EV. There’s continuous subject-tracking focus for keeping up with moving subjects, and focus peaking to help manual focusing in both still and video shooting.
4K Video Capture. The video functionality is largely the same as the GX8’s. The GX85 records 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) at 24p/30p in MP4 format with a 100 Mbps bit rate. It can capture Full HD 1080/60p in either MP4 or AVCHD formats. In addition to standard 4K video, the GX85 also features three 4K photo modes that enable 30 fps capture of 8MP JPEG stills for up to 30 minutes with full exposure control.
