We went through our lightstands during the off-season and after testing decided the best value in this range was the Manfrotto1051BAC. Although closing down to 2.5 feet and weighing 2.2 pounds it is full air cushioned, extends to 6.75 feet and can stably support about 6 pounds of gear. And each comes with a 5/8 inch top thread that is removable to show a 1/4 inch thread underneath so they can attach to almost any fixture.

If you don’t need lights way up high, they have the major advantage of shipping in normal size boxes so shipping charges remain reasonable. Plus they’re small and easy to carry in a bag with your lighting kit.
