iPad + Camera Kit

This consists of a 32GB NON 3G iPad with the Apple photo connection kit (two pieces that let you download photos on SD cards directly, and other cards or camera through a USB cable). For clarity, you will need a USB card reader for CF cards, you can download only SD cards directly. We also include a protective cover that also doubles as a stand for viewing images and slideshows.

You will receive it in “factory default” settings but are free to download any apps, videos, mp3s, etc… while you are using it. We strongly suggest downloading them via your computer (iTunes is a free download from apple.com) so you’ll have copies of the apps for future use.

You can download photos and video for storage and show while out in the field, and later upload them to your computer. Why bother with an iPad instead of a simple storage device? Because the display is much larger and amazingly good, better than many laptops and much better than other storage/viewers. Good enough to put on a slideshow or presentation for your travel companions, good enough to zoom in and see just how much detail your prints will eventually show. Plus the iPad does lots of other things. I download my camera manuals to it for example, as well as programs for depth of field calculations, exposure calculations, all kinds of things (and many of the photography apps are free downloads). Not to mention games, movies, etc. to fill in the boring times.

Roger’s take: I don’t leave home without it. Its the perfect photographers travel companion: If you’re so inclined your can add Apps to the iPad while you are renting it via iTunes and the Apple store, put your own videos and MP-3s for travel entertainment, use it to check email and surf the web from any Wi-Fi enabled location, download your vacation photos to show off and back up, and then look at your photos all the way home until you download them to your PC. For many photographers its a great laptop alternative when traveling.

But it’s got 713 other uses we’ve found so far. A classy way to present a slideshow or portfolio to a client. A superb way to show off images on-site to let clients decide what they want printed. A good way to put together a quick slide-show of ceremony images to show during the reception. For videographers it can be used as a teleprompter, a slate, an electronic notepad, even a sketchpad for layout and design. I download PDFs of instruction manuals so I always have them with me. It’s a GPS if you need it. It is the ultimate photographer’s Swiss Army Knife.
