A light weight, wide aperture zoom in a very useful focal length. 3 ED elements and 3 aspherical lenses minimize distortion and chromatic aberration, and 9 bladed aperture ring maximizes smooth bokeh.
This lens is considered probably the best ‘standard’ range lens available for Nikon digital cameras.
Roger’s take: If you are shooting a DX camera (D40-90, D200-300) this is an extremely useful focal length. It makes and excellent walk around lens, but is plenty sharp with a nice wide aperture that allows it to be a pro level wedding and short portrait lens. Not quite as sexy, perhaps, as a 14-24 f2.8, but its a very useful range that delivers excellent sharp images.
