![]() This is a DX-formatted medium telephoto Micro lens. It is ideal for extreme close-up and general photography including portraits. The lens will autofocus from 10.8" producing a life-size (1:1) image. It has Nikon’s VR II vibration reduction system and an SWM motor for rapid autofocus. Additionally it has complete internal focusing making it ideal for use with filters and a 9 rounded blade aperture ring for smooth bokeh. Roger’s take: Mom used to say if you can’t say anything nice . . . . Well, actually its not a bad lens. I just am wondering who wants an 85mm Macro that doesn’t get very sharp until f5.6 or so. Its a nice little lens, it does what they say it does well. But it really isn’t particularly useful otherwise: its not wide enough aperture to make a useful portrait or sports prime. If I wanted a dedicated Macro I’d really prefer the 105 VR f2.8. But I guess there are some times that a small, lightweight DX Macro in this focal length is useful. I think there are. Probably.
