Its faster focusing than its predecessors, has Nano Crystal element coats to reduce flare and ghosting, a magnesium cast barrel to minimize weight, and 3 ED elements to minimize chromatic Its superbly sharp, focuses almost instantaneously, it is as good as it gets. It is also as heavy as it gets: we recommend a sturdy monopod or a good tripod with gimbal head for support. Roger’s take: OK, you’d rather not take it hiking. And unless you’re really buffed up, you aren’t going to handhold it. But otherwise its breathtakingly sharp, autofocuses in a heart beat, has every convenience known, and may be the best long range sports lens made. Now that Nikon has perfected VR (Vibration Reduction) they need to start work on GR (Gravity Reduction). If they did that, I’d take this everywhere. Specs:
