Nikon’s do-it-all telephoto zoom with excellent 3 stop vibration reduction system. Reasonable size and VR allows it to be handheld with great results in decent light. This lens has the reputation of being a bit slow to autofocus compared to AF-S lenses, but otherwise is considered excellent.
Please note: This lens does not have a built-in autofocus motor. Therefore, it is not fully compatible with Nikon DSLRs such as the Nikon D40, D50, D3100, D5100, etc.

OK, its not the very best lens in Nikon’s toolbox. But its just so darn useful—it covers a great range, reasonably sharp all the way to the long end, and it’s not too heavy to carry all day. I do NOT recommend using a teleconverter with this lens. Yes, I know some people do, but you won’t be happy with the shots. I promise.
