A superb wide aperture 135mm f/2.0 lens, often used as a long portrait lens and for indoor sports in smaller venues. The unique DC feature provides a chance for intesting effects if you’re so inclined. The DC ring on the front of the lens can be set to “defocus” either the front or rear out of focus areas when the lens is shot at wide apertures. Set the ring to the same aperture as the shot is taken at and the out of focus areas are more blurred while the subject remains sharp. Set it to a different aperture and the entire image softens, sometimes useful in romantic portraits.

Megan’s Take: This baby is SWEET!! I have to admit, though, it took a little getting used to. That defocusing ring threw me off at first. If you’re shooting at anything smaller than f/5.6, don’t use the ring or you’ll find out that nothing is in focus. But once I figured that part out—-look out! This sucker is sharp as a tack and I love the extra flexibility you have with controlling the background blur. This is truly a gem. Now don’t rent it so I can keep playing with it! :) On second thought… try it out. I can always play with the 105 Micro VR!

D40/60/5000/3000 owners—-you will not be able to autofocus with this lens. Please consult your owner’s manual for compatibility.
