The lens has the reputation of being a bit slow to autofocus compared to AF-S lenses, but otherwise is considered excellent. D40/60/5000/3000 owners—-you will not be able to autofoucs with this lens. Please consult your owner’s manual for compatibility. Roger’s take: OK, its not the very best lens in Nikon’s toolbox. But its just so darn useful—it covers a great range, reasonably sharp all the way to the long end, and it’s not too heavy to carry all day. Yes, I can’t wait to see it upgraded, but until then its still very good. I do NOT recommend using a teleconverter with this lens. Yes, I know some people do, but you won’t be happy with the shots.
