![]() A light weight, wide aperture zoom in a very useful focal length. 3 ED elements and 3 aspherical lenses minimize distortion and chromatic aberration, and 9 bladed aperture ring maximizes smooth bokeh. This lens is considered probably the best ‘standard’ range lens available for Nikon digital cameras. Roger’s take: If you are shooting a DX camera (D40-90, D200-300) this is an extremely useful focal length. It makes an excellent walk around lens, but is plenty sharp with a nice wide aperture that allows it to be a pro level wedding and short portrait lens. Not quite as sexy, perhaps, as a 14-24 f2.8, but it covers a very useful range and delivers excellent sharp images. Please Note The hood for this lens may not lock into its reversed “storage” position due to an inherent weakness in its design. Nikon does not supply the piece needed to repair the broken part, and we cannot readily replace each hood that suffers from this issue as they are often on backorder. Luckily, this has no effect on the hoods ability to perform in its forward “shooting” position. Specs:
