Sale Lens Extended Warranty

We’ve had a lot of requests from customers buying our “For sale” lenses so we’ve added this option: a 2 year extended warranty through Consumer Priority Service. As you can probably imagine, getting an extended warranty on used lenses took some doing, and only lenses that we sell with a 90 day warranty from Lensrentals are eligible. The less expensive lenses that we sell without warranty are NOT eligible. It works like this:

• After you’ve purchased a lens from us, had your 3 day inspection period, and decided to keep it, you may buy an extended warranty for it during the next 30 days.
• To purchase the warranty, click on the appropriate category to order the warrany and go through the shopping cart process as normal.
• You will receive a warranty certificate from Consumer Protection Services via email within 48 hours – you will have 30 days to register your serial number with them.

Please do NOT order the warranty until you’ve inspected and decided to keep the lens. The warranty is not refundable. If you decide for any reason to return the lens, you’ve bought a shiny new warranty on nothing. Its not transferable to another copy, another lens, or another owner.

Roger’s Take: Let me be clear: I’m not a fan of extended warranties for the simple reason that obviously they must sell the warranty for less than they expect average repair costs to be. Personally I wouldn’t buy one. But a lot of people have requested that option so we’ve gotten it done for them.

Let me mention one other thing – we’re selling these at our actual cost, not even adding a dollar for our overhead or whatever. All the extended warranty services available have mixed reviews: some people love them and are eternally grateful. Some people hated them. We can’t be responsible for how another business does business and have no insider information. After our 90 day warranty, if you’ve bought the extended warranty, you’ll deal directly with the warranty company. We won’t be involved and to be blunt we’re too small of a fish to have any leverage with them should we want to. We’re simply offering this because so many people have asked for it, we’re not recommending it.
