Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM
A cult favorite for 1.6 cameras, this lens combines great center sharpness and a very wide aperture. It’s compared, not unfavorably, with Canon’s legendary 35L lens. Very popular for indoor shooting in low light conditions. Its also quite small physically, a lens you can tuck in a jacket pocket.
This lens will NOT work for full frame cameras such as the 5D.
Roger’s Take: This lens is a bit of a conundrum: its a nice, sharp, and inexpensive prime. However, it has trouble autofocusing in low light on Canon bodies (more so than other versions of the lens for other brands). We assume that has something to do with how Sigma has reverse engineered the Canon autofocus algorithms. Its still a great lens, but if you’re going to be working in low light I’d say the Canon 35 f1.4 is worth the difference here.
