Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye

Another unique offering: the Sigma is a full 180 degree spherical fisheye for DX sensor cameras. It provides a full circular 180 degree field of vision, used both for interesting photographic effects and for scientific measurements of angles and area. The lens has HSM (hypersonic motor drive) which provides rapid focus and full time manual focus override.

Note: This lens is designed for crop sensor cameras. The image will appear as a 180 degree ‘circle’ in the middle of the photo.

Roger’s take: Full disclosure here: I’m not a fan of the fisheye look, especially the full circle fisheye look. But I will say this is a sharp lens with a huge depth of field. And the images are incredibly panoramic when ‘defished’ in software, which is what I do with them, mostly. In case you don’t understand what a spherical fisheye is, the lens takes a circular image which shows up in the center of your rectangular shot — this type of fisheye does not fill the entire frame of your picture.

One point I’ll warn everyone about: the dark coating used on all of the 4.5 and 8mm Sigma fisheyes tends to flake off. It has absolutely no effect on image quality but it’s apparent cosmetically and has occurred on every copy we have.
