This is the classic 50mm fast prime in Sony mount. The wide aperture combined with in-camera image stabilization makes this a superb choice for shooting indoors or in dim light. Creative control of depth of field is possible, and the superb out of focus bokeh makes images that just can’t be achieved with a zoom.

Roger’s Take: This little lens is small, lightweight and sharp stopped down. Just a good all around walk-around or portrait lens. But the claimed aperture is kind of like my wife’s shoe size: she says she’s a size 6 but a 6.5 feels so much better that usually she buys a 7. This lens can shoot at f/1.4, as long as you don’t mind blurry images. But it’s so much better at f/2 that I shoot it at f/2.8 where it’s pretty sharp.
