An ultra-wide aperture, medium telephoto prime designed by Zeiss for Sony. The 85mm has a 9 blade circular aperture for smooth out-of-focus highlights, Zeiss T coatings to reduce flare and ghosting, and can focus as close as 3 feet away. It’s a superb long portrait and low light lens.

The 85mm has some nice features like a focus hold button mounted on the lens and a clutch that disables the manual focus ring when in autofocus mode. An exceptionally sharp lens that provides an excellent demonstration of why some folks will only shoot good prime lenses.

Roger’s Take: This lens is fast, sharp, focuses quickly and has beautiful, smooth blur. A great portrait lens!

Not just a “me too!” lens. This will knock your socks. You haven’t seen sharp until you’ve shot with this Sony-Zeiss masterpiece. Yea, I know. It’s not f1.2, but it’s just as sharp, if not more, than you-know-who. Seriously, it’s a must try.
