Sony-Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA

The premier standard-range zoom for Sony cameras—the Zeiss 24-70mm is fast, accurate, and sharp. It is a very heavy chunk of glass, but not as heavy for you to have trouble carrying it around all day. The auto-focus is surprisingly quick and quiet. Even better, the fast 2.8 aperture operates through the entire zoom range.

Roger’s Take: Quick summary: Try it. You’ll like it.
Sony has now joined the ‘big boys’ with having a world-class standard range, f/2.8 zoom. It’s superbly sharp, and I’m picky about that, I usually shoot with primes. This is one of the few zooms that I’ll take the images right out of the camera without post-processing much at all. Autofocus is quick and sure. It’s not a tiny lens by any means, but it balances well on the camera and certainly isn’t too heavy to carry around all day.

Tim’s Take:
If you have a Sony DSLR, you owe yourself the joy of shooting with this lens. This isn’t just one of those “Oh Sony just put the Zeiss name on it to sell it” lenses. You’re getting Zeiss-quality images with autofocus. Is it on par with the Canon and Nikon counterparts? Absolutely! Arguably better.
