THIS IS JUST THE EDGE 80 OPTIC ITSELF. YOU WILL ALSO NEED A COMPATIBLE LENSBABY LENS UNIT. WE RENT THEM AS WELL, SO PLEASE SEE THE LINKS BELOW.
The Lensbaby Edge 80 Optic offers a unique take on what many people have been using tilt-shift lenses for recently. Rather than the typical circular “focus spot” that previous Lensbaby optics have provided, the Edge 80 allows a line/slice of focus across the frame. Combine this with a Lensbaby Composer Pro, and you’ve got a simple to use false-miniature lens. The size of the “slice of focus” is adjusted by the Edge 80’s built-in 12-blade aperture. With a range of f2.8-22, the image can go from only a slight line of focus to nearly the whole frame in focus. The focus line can be moved around and rotated within the frame by adjusting the Lensbaby lens body (not included). The Edge 80’s focal length of 80mm serves as great tool for isolating a section of a cityscape or landscape, as well as creative portraiture. It also offers a macro function, which allows a close-focus of 17".
Please Note: The Edge 80 Optic is not compatible with current 37mm Lensbaby accessories, and the Composer with Tilt Transformer for Micro 4/3rds and Sony NEX Cameras.
For those who have concern about the optical quality of the Edge 80, you’ll be quite surprised! If perfectly centered, the Edge 80 provides great corner to corner sharpness, even at f2.8! As designed, once you start tilting, you start getting the “Lensbaby effect”. It has a pretty good build as well, with a 4 group / 5 multi-coated glass element design. Top it off with its 12 rounded aperture blades that best some “pro” designated lenses, and you’ve got a very fun specialty lens!
