![]() The classic 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. Sony’s version has met rave reviews on a number of sites, as good or better than the Canon or Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lenses (given the price, it probably should be). It’s the perfect lens for ‘up close’ sports, distant portraits, and dozens of other needs. It’s sharp as a tack, autofocuses quickly, and really is about as good as it gets. Roger’s take: Let’s face it—everybody has a great 70-200mm f/2.8. Nikon, Canon, and now Sony. Differentiating between them is splitting hairs, really, but I will say the Sony is at least as good as any of the others. It might be a hair better, it might be just as good. But for alpha shooters who haven’t had the pleasure of shooting a world class 70-200mm before, this is just a pleasure to use. For sportshooters, it’s even more dramatic compared to the third party lenses in this range. The autofocus is nearly instantaneous and superbly accurate. Specs:
