The Sony 35mm f/1.4 provides an exceptional image quality in a very wide aperture prime lens. It is superb at low light photography, where it lets in every bit of available light, or for those shots when you need the narrow depth of field that f/1.4 offers.

With a 9 blade circular iris the out of focus, highlights are smooth as silk. Double floating elements and aspherical elements provide sharp edge-to-edge images and can focus as close as 12 inches away.

Roger’s Take: I had a chance to shoot this a bit on the A900 and came away quite impressed. It’s very sharp corner to corner, quite sharp even wide open and wickedly so at f/2.0. It’s nice and small, autofocuses fairly quickly. To be honest, I find it almost identical to the Canon 35 f/1.4 L lens, which is high praise—that’s considered one of the finest primes available. I’ve posted a few shots in my A900 gallery.
