The Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 is Tamron’s ‘Professional Grade’ wide angle lens. It is a very sharp wide aperture wide angle solution. It is extremely popular with both Canon and Nikon shooters, and we expect it to be be well received by Sony shooters also. There are some slightly better, very slightly better lenses in this range, but they are generally twice the price of the Tamron.

Roger’s take: One of the best value lenses around. It’s arguably as good as the much pricier lenses in this range on a crop sensor camera at a much more attractive price, and, shoot, on Alpha cameras, you don’t need the more expensive VC version.
