Sony 10-18mm f/4 E OSS

The Sony 10-18mm f/4 E OSS is an ultra wide angle zoom lens made for Sony NEX cameras and camcorders. With a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 15-27mm, it’s a great fit for expansive landscape photography. The constant f/4 aperture and built-in OSS (up to 4-stops) make it useful for low light shooting without fluctuating ISO and shutter speed settings, and the internal focusing design allows the lens to remain the same size when adjusting focus.
Optically, the lens includes three aspherical elements that help to provide high-contrast images with very little spherical aberration and distortion. Chromatic aberrations are also kept at bay through the use of a super extra-low dispersion glass element. It offers a minimum focus distance of 9.84" for exaggerating perspective, and its 7-blade circular aperture creates very pleasing out-of-focus highlights. To help prevent lens flare, a petal-type lens hood is included.

I’m not a big fan of the Alpha lenses on adapters for NEX – they’re OK, but hard to set up a tripod with the large lens and little camera, etc. The Sony 10-18 f/4 OSS for NEX would probably be my first choice of a wide angle for the NEX system. It’s not quite as sharp right at 18mm as some of the Alpha wide lenses, but quite good right up to that point so it’s an excellent wide angle.
