The Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 E OSS provides a mega range zoom for NEX still and video cameras (and is the same lens that comes standard with the NEX 10). It contains 15 elements in 13 groups (including aspherical elements that correct visual aberrations across the entire zoom range and Extra-low Dispersion glass that minimizes flare and greatly reduces chromatic aberration). It’s internal focusing, so the front element does not move or rotate with focusing, has nearly circular aperture blades for more pleasing out of focus highlights, and provides a superb zoom range.

Well, first and foremost, it’s going to take that “pocket camera” feel away from the NEX 5 when you mount this thing on it. But it does provide a marvelous zoom range and a one lens solution. And you will certainly get some “What in the world is that?” comments.
How good is it? Well, it’s OK. It’s a superzoom, after all, and the best of those are good, not great. This one is good to about 150mm, not so good after that, though. I’ll say what I’ve said before: I think the NEX is a better camera than the NEX lenses let it show it is. This one is certainly as good as the 18-55mm and nearly as good as the 16mm from an image quality standpoint. Which is more of a comment on how weak those lenses are than a comment on how good this one is.
