Sony’s 30mm f/3.5 E Macro Lens for Alpha NEX Cameras features a 1:1 magnification ratio at all apertures and ED glass as well as multi-coating for excellent image quality. Chromatic aberration and color bleeding are minimized to produce clear, crisp photos and video. Direct Manual Focusing lets you switch instantly from autofocus to manual focus without any other adjustments, and an internal stepping motor and rear-focusing design provide the quiet, smooth operation that’s required for high-quality video capture. This is a versatile lens that gives you plenty of options for quality image-making.

This lens gives NEX users a wonderful 45mm equivalent option for their cameras. While the f3.5 can limit low-light shooting, it’s great as a light-weight walk around lens, as well as a macro. One note about the macro qualities of this lens, however. While it technically does shoot at a 1:1 ratio, keep it mind this is a 45mm equivalent lens. At 1:1, you’re 2.4cm from what you’re shooting! This can be fun to play around with, but trying to get serious 1:1 macro shots is probably not going to happen. The images from this lens are tack-sharp and when shooting macro, the lens does give a decent out-of-focus background (ie. bokeh). On the down side, it does feel a bit large on the NEX cameras. However, that is pretty much the case with just about all of the other Sony E-mount lenses as well. If you’re looking for a new lens to try, give it a shot. It’s definitely worth the money!
