Gorillapod Focus w/ Ballhead X

The Gorillapod Focus w/ Ballhead X is a versatile mini tripod that can support professional-grade equipment. While its little brother, the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom w/ Mini Ballhead is rated to hold only 6.6 lbs, the Gorillapod Focus w/ Ballhead X handles up to 11 lbs with ease. Rather than an all-plastic design, the Focus features machined aluminum sockets and high-quality injection-molded thermoplastic joints (fancy for plastic). The Ballhead X also offers a great improvement over the BH1-01EN ballhead found on the SLR-Zoom, with two dedicated adjustment knobs for full 360° panning and up to 90° tilts. While the standard plate is a fancy X-shaped design, the ballhead does accept standard arca-swiss type plates. While the two Gorillapod versions work very similar in terms of versatility, with completely articulated legs that can be bent in any way you choose: standing on a shelf or table, wrapped around a post or chair back, etc. The Focus offers a much more durable build and supports heavier equipment.

The Gorillapod is an indispensable item for traveling. While large, full-sized tripods can be cumbersome to lug around, the Gorillapod has always been one of my favorite items to take in its place. The Gorillapod Focus w/ Ballhead X is an awesome choice for just about any camera you’re using. While many people look at it and think “why would I want a bunch of images from a foot off the ground?”, you’d be surprised how often there’s something nearby to set it on / wrap it around. The SLR-Zoom version is great if you need a lighter weight option, but if you have a bit more space, go for the Focus. You won’t regret it!
