As opposed to moving in arcs, like a ballhead would, the geared planes allow the camera’s position to be changed without changing the plane of focus — perfect for Macro or other precise work.

Its also extremely sturdy, capable of supporting over 20 pounds, and relatively light, weighing only two pounds itself. The mount is compatible with all Arca-Swiss type plates Its a very expensive tripod head, but perhaps the best you can get.
