A strong, fast midrange zoom, the Tamron is smaller and lighter than any other f2.8 aperture standard range zoom. Canon and Nikon shooters often choose this over the 24-70mm f2.8 zooms from their own manufacturers: it has a wide aperture, is extremely sharp, and is significantly less expensive.
Roger’s take: The Tammy is the best lens nobody knows about, and possibly the best bang-for-the-buck of any camera lens, period. It’s very sharp at f4 and reasonably sharp at f2.8, small and light, which can be important when traveling. And the price is hard to beat!
