Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8

A lot of talk about this lens, and finally we’ve gotten a couple of copies. The Tamron 70-200 f2.8 Di LD for Canon provides a fast aperture, short telephoto lens to compete with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 lens at a lower price. Although there have been few reviews, we understand the design is similar to the excellent Tamron 17-50 and 28-75 f2.8 lenses, both of which have excellent image quality. It also has a very close, 3 foot minimum focus distance at 200mm, making it a near Macro 1.3:1 enlargement.

Ron’s Take: None of us in the office have gotten to use this yet, but early adapter Ron Richardson’s says this after working with the lens for a couple of weeks: “I really enjoyed the versatility of this lens, particularly its close-focusing capabilities. Despite its length, it was not too heavy and most of the shots I took were handheld. The lens focused smoothly and quickly in almost every situation I used it for and it did not hunt for focus in low light conditions any more than my Canon lens did.”
