Sigma 30mm f/2.8 EX DN for Sony NEX

The Sigma 30mm f/2.8 EX DN is a standard range prime lens option for Sony NEX E-mount cameras and camcorders. It offers a 45mm focal length (35mm-equivalent) that’s great as a walk-around / street photography lens, and its linear AF motor provides quiet autofocusing for both still and video recording.
While its f/2.8 doesn’t allow for paper-thin depth of field at normal distances, its ability to focus as close as 11.81" does allow subject isolation at closer distances. Sigma designed the 30mm f/2.8 with two glass mold aspherical lens elements to minimize barrel distortion and field curvature, as well as keeping aberrations at bay. Like many other Sigma lenses, the 30mm also features their Super Multi Layer Coating to reduce ghosting and lens flare.

There have only been a few lenses I’ve said this about: if you own an NEX camera, don’t rent this. Just buy it. At this moment, it’s the sharpest lens in native E mount you can buy. In the center. In the corners. At f/2.8. At f/4. It focuses quickly. It’s amazingly inexpensive.
If you’re renting an NEX-7, or you can’t find one of these to buy, then rent it. Otherwise you’re throwing your money away because you’ll buy it halfway through the rental period. It’s that great.
