The newest addition to our Zeiss lineup, the 18mm f3.5 is now the widest prime in the ZF family. It is, like all the ZFs, a manually focusing lens but D200/300, D700, and D3 cameras will automatically adjust exposure with the lens. The 18 provides low distortion with that wonderful Zeiss contrast and sharpness.
Roger’s take: I’ve enjoyed this lens a lot. It provides good corner to corner resolution and sharpness and that unique Zeiss microcontrast. I find it actually sharper close up compared to at infinity with all 3 copies we have, similar to the Zeiss 25mm. But I’m in the minority there, the professional reviewers haven’t mentioned that. It vignettes pretty significantly even at f5.6 so I’d plan on shooting in raw to remove that in postprocessing.
