The HV40 can be used as a good spare camera for professionals and is a great first camera for those transitioning into videography. Many film students use these for shorts and even features. It lacks many of the more robust features of a professional video camera, but still allows for almost* full manual control over your image. This is particularly exciting when you realize that it features a sensor larger than that found on the Z7u. Just keep in mind, image quality will vary depending upon your skill level. *You can’t control both shutterspeed and aperture at the same time. One or the other will always be auto, but you can lock exposure.
