18.0 megapixel CMOS sensor
9-point cross-type autofocus system
High-speed continuous shooting at up to 4 fps
Excellent in low-light conditions
The Canon SL1 is an extremely compact entry-level DSLR. Key features include:
Extremely Compact Build. While its specs are quite similar to those of the Canon T5i, the SL1 sheds 6 oz. in weight and boasts a markedly smaller footprint.
18.0MP CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 5 Processor. The SL1 features an 18.0 megapixel CMOS sensor with Canon’s DiG!C 5 Image Processor, allowing high-speed continuous shooting at up to 4 fps. This camera has a normal ISO range of 100-12,800, giving photographers the flexibility to shoot in low-light conditions. It has the same nine-point all cross-type autofocus (AF) the T5i, but gains a second-generation Hybrid CMOS AF System for shooting video and stills in Live View.
High-Quality Video. The SL1’s video capabilities are also quite similar to its big brother’s. It features Canon’s Movie Servo AF, which allows continuous focus of moving subjects while recording (with compatible STM lenses). It has a built-in mono microphone and 3.5mm input for connecting an external mic, and the in-camera manual audio-level adjustment enables high-quality audio.
3.0-Inch Touchscreen. The SL1 has a fixed 3.0-inch 1,040k touchscreen for easy settings adjustments, as well as nearly all the dedicated buttons you’d expect to find on a Rebel-series camera.
Lens and Memory Compatibility. The SL1 is compatible with both Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It records its JPEG, RAW, and MOV files to SDHC/XC memory cards.
