In General
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K had a lot of hype to live up to, and in my limited time with it, found success. The camera feels nice in your hand. The improvements to basic usability by way...
Yes. We highly advise people who need more battery life to check out the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K / 6K Battery Grip. Not only does it provide approximately 3.4x the shooting time, it also adds a better grip for larger hands and higher lens spacing for follow focuses with rails. Please be aware that this grip uses Hawk-Woods DV-F590 batteries, so if you’re renting extras, get those instead of the Canon LP-E6Ns.
Yes! Metabones has developed two adapters specifically for the BMPCC4K. The Metabones Canon EF to BMPCC4K Speed Booster T Ultra and the Metabones Canon EF to BMPCC4K Speed Booster T XL are now available and are optimized with the 2.4mm sensor stack of this camera in mind.
No. This camera defaults to a windowed sensor mode when shooting in some UHD and HD modes.
Blackmagic hasn’t released an official crop factor but we suspect the UHD crop to be approximately x1.9 and the HD RAW crop to be roughly x4.
Yes! You’ll want this handy LanParte Ronin-S Offset Plate. The LanParte Ronin-S Offset Plate for BMPCC4K serves the sole purpose of allowing the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K to mount and balance on the DJI Ronin-S 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer by offsetting the camera.
Please note, due to the lightweight of the BMPCC4K, we do not recommend using the Ronin-S and Pocket Camera 4K with cinema lenses. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our video techs and they can help walk you through it.
No. As of the most recent firmware update, this camera will only record Blackmagic RAW, not CinemaDNG.
The BMPCC 4K utilizes a standard HDMI connector to output video but is limited to 10-bit 4:2:2 in full HD.
At lower resolutions and frame rates, you may be able to record to a UHS-I SD card but performance is not guaranteed. For a complete list of recommended media by recording formats, please refer to the “Recommended Media” link in the resources box.
