NOTE: This is a legacy item. Meaning it’s out of production and no new copies or parts can be obtained. It is possible that loss or damage could prevent us from filling your reservation, although we will do our best to find you a replacement. Please realize, this lens hasn’t been made in over a decade, so it’s not going to look as new as our, well, new lenses. Unlike our regular stock we can’t ‘find another one’ if the previous renter is late returning it or it gets damaged before your reservation.
An ultra-fast standard lens with the largest aperture for SLR lenses ever made. Two large-diameter aspherical lens elements provide high-contrast with low-flare image quality even at maximum aperture. Spherical aberration and curvature of field at close focusing distance are minimized through use of four high-refraction glass elements and by a floating mechanism.
For those who don’t know about this lens, it is soft with an amazingly dreamy bokeh when wide open. It’s often used with an adapter by cinematographers. Stopped down to f/1.4 it becomes sharper but will remain soft in the edges and corners. It’s not necessarily better than the Canon 50mm f/1.2L, but it gives a different and special look.
Please note: This lens focuses electronically, even in manual focus mode. It cannot be focused unless it is receiving electrical power from a Canon camera and therefore cannot be used on adapters.

President of LensRentals.com
This is a specialty lens that gives a dreamy look. Out of focus areas are smooth to the point of being slightly colored blurs. Wide open the in-focus areas have a soft and dreamy look, similar to the old ‘soft-focus’ lenses that are out of production now, which makes for flattering, smooth portraits.
At f/1.0 you can basically shoot in candlelight. Stopped down it’s nice and sharp, but if you’re shooting at f/2 and up, you’d probably be better served by a newer lens. This is a special lens for a special look. Just because it’s more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better at everything.
