Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 for Canon

The Rokinon (AKA Samyang, AKA Bower) 35mm f1.4 is a manual focus lens. It has created a lot of conversation being a sharp wide-aperture prime lens at an incredibly attractive price point. It uses hybrid aspheric elements (molded aspheric attached to ground glass) to hopefully give the advantages of aspheric elements without the high cost usually associated with such lenses.

Shooting with it, I like it a lot better at f/2.0 than at f/1.4. There’s a look to it wide open that is a bit harsh; Maybe bokeh or some astigmatism. By f/2.0 though it’s very nice. It handles and focuses well. Is it a Canon 35 f/1.4 replacement for 20% of the price? No way. But if you don’t mind manually focusing, it’s certainly as nice as the 35 f2.0 (although larger) at the same price and usable at f/1.4 if the need arises.
