The Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC HSM A1 is a fast-aperture standard lens designed for crop-sensor DSLRs. With an angle of view equivalent to 48mm, it’s a great choice for a wide variety of photography. The f/1.4 aperture provides great low-light shooting capabilities, and a fast Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) enables sharp, in-focus images. The lens utilizes a rear focus system which prevents focus-dependent variation in aberration, making high-level image quality possible throughout the entire image. This also means the barrel remains stationary at all times, great news for filter users. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 11.8" and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.8.

Sigma has developed a proprietary MTF measuring system (A1) using their 46MP resolution Foveon direct image sensors. According to the manufacturer, previously undetectable high-frequency details are now within the scope of their quality control inspections, allowing improved manufacturing tolerances with improved image quality and performance. As a member of Sigma’s Art lens line, this lens is also compatible with the Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF Lenses which allows users to specify certain parameters like fine-tuning microfocus through the Sigma Optimization Pro software.

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM A1 is a definite upgrade from the previous version. Right out of the case you can tell the build quality is much stronger, with a solid, accurate focus ring. Optically, the image quality is similar in the center to the previous version, but the corners are much sharper and focusing is more accurate making it worth the price difference.
