This is the NON Image Stabilized version of Canon’s 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens.

It offers the same remarkable image quality as the IS version, but at a lower price. For photographers shooting sporting events or who know they will be using fast shutter speeds, this lens is a significantly less expensive version which can do the same job.

Roger’s take: Its really very simple: if you are primarily a sportshooter and are going to keep your shutter speeds short to stop action, then don’t waste your money paying for Image Stabilization. In that case the non-IS version is at least as sharp (some say sharper) and every bit as quick to autofocus for less money.
