For photographers shooting sporting events or those who know they will be using fast shutter speeds, this lens is a significantly less expensive version which can do the same job. Roger’s take: It’s really very simple: if you are primarily a sportshooter and are going to keep your shutter speeds short to stop action, then don’t waste your money paying for Image Stabilization. In that case the non-IS version is at least as sharp (some say sharper) and every bit as quick to autofocus for less money. Specs:
